Clearwater Upsets Bernie 7 - 2

Bernie, Missouri - Cearwater varsity baseball team defeated Bernie 7-2.

"We kicked it around again today.  We had three inexperienced pitchers going today and although they did alright--our defense let them down," stated Bernie head baseball coach Darrin Shipman.

Clearwater scored 5 runs in the third on a hit-batter, walk, and one out hits by Alcorn, Holmes and Hillis.  A failed double play ball back to the pitcher
prolonged the inning and allowed two runs to score as the throw to second sailed into center field.

Bernie scored its two runs in the bottom of third on a walk to Beck, a hit by Brown, and a two-RBI double by Beacham.

Clearwater added two runs in the seventh off of pitcher Preston Barber.  A key error on the right-fielder proved costly for Bernie.

Their big inning started out with a hit-batter and a walk to the bottom of the order and you can't do that," continued Shipman.  "Their top of the order made us pay.  Their pitcher (Alcorn) threw extremely well and was probably the best pitcher we had faced this year.  Hopefully we can turn things around this weekend against very good teams in the Malden Tournament."

Bloomfield Baseball Team Defeats Leopold

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Wildcats defeated Leopold 10 - 4 this week.  Tyler Battles (2-0) was the winning pitcher.  Garrett Thele took the loss for Leopold.

Notables: Noah Vandiver 3-4 (@B, 3B, HR), 6RBI; Jacob Hector 2-3, BB, 3SB

"The focus and effort on both sides of the ball just wasn't there today. We know that we are a team that must stay focused all the time and swing at pitches in the zone," commented Bloomfield head baseball coach Tyler Trover. "I felt like today we expanded the zone too much and it set us up for poor at bats."

"Noah Vandiver flat carried us today. He put us on his back with 6 RBI'S and a couple of tremendous plays defensively. He is starting to understand what it takes to lead and is doing so with his effort each and every day," continued Trover.

Bloomfield now maintains a record: of 6-2 going into Friday's Malden Baseball Tournament.  The Wildcats will play at noon vs New Madrid County Central and again at 2:00 p.m. against Caruthersville.

"Hopefully these guys can make some adjustments and we can have a strong showing in the upcoming Malden tournament," stated Trover.
