Sikeston Bulldogs Defeat Dexter 12-2 on Monday Evening

Sikeston, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats baseball team traveled to Sikeston on Monday, April 8, 2019.  The Bulldogs came out strong defeated Dexter 12-2.

Dexter came out on top early scoring two runs, but Sikeston followed with 12 runs to beat them.

Garrett Henson and Peyton driskill hit consecutive singles giving the Bearcats the 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Bearcats are now 1-9 on the season and 0-4 SEMO Conference.

Sikeston (5-3, 3-1 SEMO) scored four in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth, and three in the sixth to end the game on a 10-run mercy rule.

Tyler Gilmer earned the win allowing two runs on five hits striking out three and one walk in four innings.

Ethan Kincy took the loss for Dexter.  He allowed two hits and four runs over 2/3 of an inning striking out two.

Kincy also led Dexter with two hits in three at-bats.

Final Score Sikeston 12, Dexter 2

Lady Bearcats Fall to NMCC in Softball

New Madrid, Missouri - The Lady Cats softball team traveled to New Madrid on Monday, April 8, 2019.  The Green Wave shut-out Dexter in five inning 10-0.

Lily Johnson had all the right stuff on Monday evening allowing zero runs, two hits striking out ten and walking one in five innings at the mound.

The Green Wave opened up scoring in the first inning when an error scored two runs.  The notched five runs in the second inning.

Dexter's Kelby Hill hit a single in the first inning for Dexter.

Sydney Asberry took the loss for the Lady Bearcats.  She went four and 2/3 innings allowing ten runs on 11 hits and striking out five.

Hannah Pyles also had a hit.

Dexter fell to 1-9 on the season, NMCC improved to 6-7.

Final Score NMCC 10, Dexter 0

Dexter Golf Team Finishes 2nd at Poplar Bluff Tournament

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats placed 2nd at the Poplar Bluff Invitational boys golf tournament on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Westwood Hills Country Club.

They shot 316, 31 strokes behind Jackson (285).  Poplar Bluff finished third with a score of 320.  Farmington was fourth with 323.

Spencer Warren shot a 71 and placed 3rd.  He finished two strokes behind Jackson Indian Case Englehart who shot a 69 to win the tournament.

“Spencer hit 17 greens today and just needed a few more putts to fall,” commented Dexter coach Eric Sitze, “but he was right there with Case.”

Dylan Sitze’s 80, Cy Worley’s 82 and Ryan Collier’s 83 completed Dexter’s team score.

"Dylan was just 4 over going into his last 3 holes and had some bad luck after a bad swing," continued Sitze.  "We can take a lot of positive from today.  That's all you can do.  We are young and we are getting better that's all I can ask."

“Ryan and Cy didn’t have very good front-nine scores but stayed after it and had solid back nines for us," Sitze stated.

Bearcats Tennis Team Takes 1st Place at Poplar Bluff Invitational

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats won the 8-team Poplar Bluff Invitational boys tennis tournament on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Poplar Bluff High School.

Eric Hahn placed second with a 3-1 record while Nate Gargas tied for third with a 2-1 record.

"We won the overall team tournament scoring a total of 15 team points," commented Eric Boles, DHS Tennis Coach.  "Han went 3-1 losing in the singles finals and finished 2nd overall.  Gargas lost in singles semi-finals to the eventual champion.  He tied for third."

Cape Central, Farmington, Jackson, Notre Dame, Potosi, and Sikeston also competed in the tournament.

Each singles win earned the team 2 points while the doubles win earned them 2.5 points.

Both doubles teams won their first-round matches. Logan Wyman/Ryder Boles won 8-3 and Travis Propst/Eric Allen won 8-5.

Wyman/Boles lost 8-5 in quarterfinals and Propst/Allen lost 8-2.

Nate Gargas won 8-0

Dexter Places 2nd at Farmington Golf Invitational

Farmington, Missouri - Three Dexter golfers won medals as the 'Cats finished second  in the 15-team Farmington Invitational on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Crown Pointe Golf Club.  Medals were given to the top-12.

Case Englehart, of Jackson, won the tournament with a 2-over 74.

"We had a good tournament," commented Eric Sitze, DHS golf coach.  "All the guys brought their score down from our first tournament of the year."

"Spencer , Ryan, and Cy all medaled," continued Sitze.  "Dylan missed it by 1 and Lukey b 4.  We need to score better on the par 5's and 4's and narrow that gap between us and Jackson, but happy with our progress. Th These guys are fun to watch and can't wait for our next one!"

Spencer Warren placed fourth with a 4-over 76.  He finished with three birdies and eight pars.

Ryan Collier tied for fifth with a 78 and Cy Worley tied for 12th with an 82.

Dylan Sitze tied for 16th with 83 and Luke Becker tied for 24th with 86.

Dexter posted a 319 total score behind Jackson who won the tournament.
