Dexter Bee Club Hosting a Beginner's Bee Class

Dexter, MO - The Dexter Bee Club will have a beginners beekeeper workshop on Saturday, February 27th at 9 .m.  This is an all day workshop and the cost is $35. 

This will include a 1 year membership to the Dexter Bee Club, a beginner's booklet, and lunch will be provided.

Tyler Sparkman will be the instructor and the location will be at Pleasant Grove Community Church, 13798 State Hwy H in Dexter.  Please RSVP by calling Steve Babb at 421-0010 or Jeremy Bradshaw at 820-2081.

There will also by a drawing among the attendees for a nuc of bees and a hive body from Jake and Andrea Knight.

The class is open to the public!  If you are interested in raising bees or just learning more about them, this is a wonderful beginner's bee course.

The president of the Dexter Bee Club is Steve Babb, Vice President is Jeremy Bradshaw and the Treasurer is Angie Laden.

Bee Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at Three Rivers College in Dexter at 6 pm

WB Route 60 in Scott, New Madrid and Stoddard Counties Reduced for Guardrail Repairs 

Westbound U.S. Route 60 in Scott, New Madrid and Stoddard Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform guardrail repairs.

The following lane closures will be in place on Route 60:

Work will extend from Route AA in Scott County to Route E in New Madrid County. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 1 through Monday, March 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Work will extend from Route BB in New Madrid County to County Road 589 in Stoddard County. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 8 through Monday, March 15 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Work will extend from Route FF in Stoddard County to Route WW in Stoddard County. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, March 15 through Monday, March 22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

The work zones will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near these areas.

Election Results for Stoddard County Extension Council

We want to thank all candidates that sought election for the Stoddard County Extension Council and to the voters who made the election a success.  The turn-out was great and the votes were close but only four (4) could be chosen.

The following persons were elected for two (2) year terms on the Stoddard County Extension Council:  James Childers, Dexter; Pamela Elder, Bloomfield; Jennifer Hampton, Dexter and Kelly Midkiff, Dexter.

We look forward to the knowledge and the areas of expertise these new members will bring with them starting their journey in March 2021.

VOTING FOR COUNTY EXTENSION COUNCIL

Voting for the members of Stoddard County Extension Council will begin on January 19, 2021 and end at the close of business on January 26, 2021.

This year we have one candidate running for four two-year term openings they are:  James Childers, Pam Elder, Jennifer Hampton, Robinn Daves-Huey, Ashley Jarrell and Kelly Morgan-Midkiff

Paper ballots will be available at the Extension Office, located at 316 S. Prairie Street, Bloomfield.  Voting may be done by coming in to the Extension Office and requesting a 2021 ballot.  Extension Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for voting. 

The Stoddard County University of Missouri Extension Council determines the educational programs, policies and approved staff of University Extension for Stoddard County as set by law.  In addition, in cooperation with the Stoddard County Commission, they arrange for financing the local portion of the programs.

Some of the educational programs available through University Extension in Stoddard County deal with large scale agriculture and small scale farming enterprises, home economics, community development, homemaker clubs, and foods and nutrition for low-income families.  These programs, open to all citizens, are provided by county area- based and campus based specialists and paraprofessionals through the University of Missouri and Lincoln University.

The winning candidates will start their new terms during the Stoddard County Extension Council’s annual meeting in March.
