In Loving Memory of Martha Lindsay

Martha Alice Helen Pauline Williams Lindsay, daughter of the late Abednego Williams and Lora Moore Williams was born on the family homestead near Ojibway, Missouri on October 12, 1914 and departed this life at the Malden Nursing Center in Malden on December 22nd, 2016 at the age of 102 years.

Helen lived in Wayne County, MO near Ojibway until moving to Bernie, MO between 1932-35.  She went to beauty school in Poplar Bluff, MO for 9 months then opened Helen’s (beauty shop) 1936.  She was united in marriage to James Myrl Lindsay on February 8, 1937 at the courthouse in Poplar Bluff, MO by Judge Dean.  She and Myrl moved to Afton, IA in 1977, where she was caregiver with at Stroud-Lindsay Funeral home there until moving to Creston, IA in 1995.  After her son Vane’s death in 2012 she returned to Bernie.

Her husband Myrl preceded her in death on March 8, 1989 at the hospital in Creston, IA.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings Junie Mae Williams, Aileen Stafford, Willis Williams, and Leroy Williams, her son Vane Lamar Lindsay on April 20, 2012, and her grandson Shawn Patrick Kelley on August 16, 2009.

Survivors include daughter-in-law Mary Ann Lindsay; grandsons Andrew Lamar (wife Jean Marie) Lindsay and Lamar Paul (wife Stacey) Lindsay; great-grandchildren Shianne Eve, Nora Beth Helene, and Calum Lamar Lindsay; great-great-granddaughter Riley Marie Kelley; sister-in-law Doris Williams; nieces Tara (husband Ken) Kifer, Jana Paddock, and Lana (husband Darrin) Shipman, nephew Kerry Cameron (wife Cheryl) Williams; grand-nieces and nephews, Brad (wife Jess) Kifer, Kendra (husband James) Grady, Crystal (husband Sam) Buffaloe, Holly King, Darri Shipman and Cameron Shipman; eight great-grand-nieces and nephews, Bradley, Layla, Josie & Hayes Kifer, Marlee & Laynie Grady, Amelie & James Buffaloe; her beloved caretaker, Joleen (husband Eric) Sherrod; by other extended family and friends, all who loved her dearly.

Per Helen’s request, Graveside Services will be conducted in the Bernie Cemetery, on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 starting at 10:00 A.M., with Reverend Randy Moore officiating. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bernie Christian Church. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie oversees arrangements.

Deanna Gay Childers, daughter of the late, Brenda Carter Collins, was born on March 22, 1964 in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on December 24, 2016 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 52.

Mrs. Childers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bernie.  She was the office manager at Jim Gibson Trucking in Dexter.  She was a resident of Dexter.

On July 13, 1979, she was united in marriage to Terry Childers in Bernie, Missouri.  Mr. Childers survives of their home in Dexter.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, James Madison Childers and wife Lisa of Dexter, Terry Joe Childers Jr. of Dexter and Gavin Aaron Childers and wife Toni of Dexter; by one daughter, Christina Michelle Woolard and husband, Nick of Naylor, Missouri; by one brother, Shane Sweet of Anna, Illinois; by four sisters, Nita Stubbs of Phoenix, Arizona, Sue Belcher of Dexter, Jeannie Porter of Dongola, Illinois and Shanna Sweet of Mill Creek, Illinois and by nine grandchildren, Zach Woolard, Jennifer Woolard, Mason Childers, Drake Childers, Brylee Childers, Carter Childers, Bella Childers, Breanna Childers and Maddi Childers.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 12:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 2:30 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

In Loving Memory of Violet Dowdy

Violet Jean Robey Caldwell Dowdy of Bloomfield, daughter of Curtis and Jane Diana Hammonds Robey, was born in Avert, Missouri on July 28, 1944, and passed away at her son's residence in St. Charles, Missouri on December 23, 2016, at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 25 days.

She had grown up in Avert and Bloomfield, lived in O'Fallon, Missouri from 1965 until returning to Bloomfield in 1995. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in O'Fallon and enjoyed planting and tending her flowers, shopping, yard sales and spending time with her family.

On December 20, 1996, she was married to Kenneth Dale Dowdy in Dexter, Missouri.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Dale Dowdy of Bloomfield; one son and wife, Tony H. & Marsha Caldwell of St. Charles, Missouri; one granddaughter, Kendra (Malcolm) Roach of Ft. Hood, Texas; three great grandchildren; Bryant, Carson & Natalie Roach all of Ft. Hood, Texas; one sister, Pansy (Jack) Jines of Bloomfield; one step-son, Robert Dale Dowdy of Springfield, Missouri and one step-daughter, Sherri Lynn Farrar of Jefferson City, Missouri. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitations will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Chiles - Cooper Funeral Home, in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Alice Fowler of Bloomfield officiating.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Chiles - Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.

In Loving Memory of Ralph J. McMillian

Ralph J. McMillian was born on July 22, 1924 in Kennett, Missouri to the late Jerome McMillian & Flora Kinder McMillian. He departed this life on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 92 years 4 months and 26 days.

Ralph J. McMillian was an auto body repairman. He served in the U S Army during WW II with the 9th Army Field Artillery Unit, 753 Battery B. He was a machine gunner. He was of the Christian faith. Ralph was first married to Johanna Campbell McMillian. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1999. He was united in marriage to Betty Lipsey on April 21, 2001 in Malden. She survives of the home in Malden.

His other survivors include: Daughter: Denise Tadlock & husband, Joe of Malden. Son: Rick J. McMillian & wife, Mona of Knoxville, Tennessee. Step-daughter: Paulette O’Neal & husband, Jerry of Dexter.Grandchildren: Adam Tadlock of Malden, Rachel Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA., Dianne Jenny of Knoxville, TN. & Claudia Cook of Olive Branch, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Johanna, Grandson: Robert K. Charlton and brothers: Bob, Bill Jim & Harold McMillian.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden for 6-8 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Landess Funeral Chapel at 1:00 P.M. with Mr. James Powell officiating.

Interment will be in the Rosewood 1st Addition Cemetery in Malden.

In Loving Memory of Gene Chasteen

Gene Chasteen, son of the late Carl Chasteen and Ruth Sitton Chasteen was born on September 2, 1926 in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on December 16, 2016 at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 90 years.

Mr. Chasteen was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II.   He retired from Fred Weber Construction in St. Louis before returning to Dexter.  Gene worked for McMullin Excavating in Dexter for 10 years, Dexter Wal-Mart for 12 years, and was a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Dexter.

On February 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Fields in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mrs. Chasteen survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, survivors include four sons, Mike Chasteen (Brenda) of Sikeston, Missouri, Keith Chasteen (Kristi) of Dexter, Scott Chasteen (Kristin) of Dexter, and Brad Chasteen (Jennifer) of Austin, Texas; by two daughters, Laura Robinson (Norman) and Beth Baker (Doug) all of Dexter; also by fourteen grandchildren Candice, Brian, Lindsay, Emily, Whitney, Drew, Lacey, Madisson, Will, Jessica, Paige, Tyler, Sophia, and Kennedy; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylea, Emma, Cooper, and Marley.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016. 

Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Doug West officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery with full military rites.
