In Memory of Phyllis Ann Morgan

Phyllis Ann Morgan, daughter of Elbert Eugene Morgan and the late Mary Ruth Morgan, was born on May 14, 1949, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and departed this life on October 15, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape, Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 72 years.

Ms. Morgan was of the Catholic Faith, a homemaker and a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

She is survived by her father, Elbert Morgan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; by her son, Timothy Murphy of Bernie, Missouri; by her daughter, Melissa Burge of Wentzville, Missouri; by her sister, Susan Haney of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; by five grandchildren, Berry Burge, Brauck Burge, Mackayla Baggett, Megan Wiseman, and Gage Murphy; and by six great-grandchildren.

Other than by her mother, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Brittney Grammer Murphy.

Private interment will take place in Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri at a later date.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory Betty June Cobb

Betty June Cobb of Dexter, Missouri born to the late Wayne and Nancy (Bates) Jackson on July 09, 1942 in Dexter, Missouri passed away on October 18, 2021 in Sikeston, Missouri at the age of 79 years. 

Betty married Gene Cobb on August 24, 1961 in Dexter, Missouri.  She has lived in Dexter, Missouri most of her life.  She enjoyed flowers and taking care of all the stray dogs she could.   

Dorothy is survived by her husband Gene Cobb; one son Roy Allen Cobb of Dexter, Missouri; two grandchildren Codey Allen Cobb and Joshua Wayne Cobb; one brother Allen Jackson of Dexter, Missouri; one sister Beverly (Carl) Graham of Dexter, Missouri.  A host of family and friends also survive.    

Visitation will be on Friday October 22, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral Service will be Friday October 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with Pastor Tim Russell of Dexter, Missouri.

Interment will follow in Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.  With Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Melissa Denene Wynkoop

Melissa Denene Wynkoop of Poplar Bluff, Missouri born to the late William and Lottie (Cantrell) Maddox on February 19, 1965 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away on October 17, 2021 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 56 years.  

Melissa married Richard D. Wynkoop on June 14, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was of the Christian Faith.  She enjoyed spending time with her family.     

Surviving Melissa is one son Dustin Maddox of Qulin, Missouri; two daughters Shawna Hemby of Puxico, Missouri and Kami Maddox of poplar Bluff, Missouri; five grandchildren Josh Hemby, Landon Maddox, Jayden Hemby, Jalynn Credille and Trenton Maddox.  A host of family and friends also survive.  

Visitation will be on Friday October 22, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri. 

Funeral service will be Saturday October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri.

Interment will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri.  With Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Carol Eilene McRoy

Carol Eilene McRoy, daughter of the late Donald and Virginia Hulsey Reiter, was born on July 25, 1943, in Sikeston, Missouri and departed this life on October 17, 2021, at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 78 years.

Carol attended Fairview or “Curdton” as it was called grade school six miles east of Puxico, until it was consolidated, and finished High School in Puxico in May 1961. She worked various jobs from factories to newspapers, and she worked at Dexter Hospital from July 1978 to December 1986. In December 1986, Carol went to work for Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Warren until his office closed in June 1992. She spent the next twenty years with Visiting Nurses of Southeast Missouri, retiring in 2012.

On August 15, 1966, she married Richard Lee McRoy. A wonderful son, Steven Lee was born to them on April 13, 1968. Steven went to Heaven August 10, 2013.

Carol always put her family before herself and enjoyed cooking big meals for birthdays and holidays and helping families in need the Christian way she was raised. As a family, the McRoy’s enjoyed visiting parks, sightseeing, camping, hunting, and fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Richard McRoy of Dexter, and by two special friends, Dennis and Donna Hutchison of Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 19, 2021m at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ronnie Stevens officiating.

In Memory of George Verlan Beacham

George Verlan Beacham was born to George Ovid Beacham and Annie Lucille Wilson Beacham, August 13, 1935 in Octa, Dunklin County. He passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021 at his home in Bernie.

George began his school career at Octa for grades 1-5 and finished in Senath, graduating in 1953. He married his classmate Hazel Bowman on August 15, 1954, and they moved to Bernie in 1958, where they had two sons, Cameron and Barry. At the age of 17, George was saved at the Baptist Church of Senath. He attended church at First Southern Baptist of Bernie, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, song leader, and deacon at various points. He was also a member of the Bernie school board, the MFA Oil Board, and active in the FHA. George was also a farmer in Bernie and the surrounding areas for most of his life. He is remembered for his generosity to those in need of help, and his exceptional love of his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending college baseball games of his 3 grandsons that played.

George is mourned by his wife of 67 years Hazel, sons Cameron of Cambia, Illinois and Barry and wife Michelle of Malden, grandchildren Nicole and her husband Dustin Benson of Qulin, Jay Beacham and Beth Green of Dongola, Illinois, Kyle Matthews and wife Aubrey of Omaha, Arkansas, Brock Beacham of Dexter, Blake Beacham of Cape Girardeau, by 3 great-grandchildren, Ivy Benson, Jett Benson and Merrick Matthews, his sisters Mary Farmer of Bernie, Jeanice and her husband Dale Tanner of Wappapello, Andrea Beacham-Loepke and her husband Larry of Alicante, Spain, and brother-in-law Carlyn Bowman and wife Joann of Bernie.

George was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother Kenny.

Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Funeral services will then be conducted at 10:30 A.M. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating. Graveside services will be held at Dunklin County Memorial Gardens in Kennett, Missouri starting at 2:00 P.M.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to

Senath School Scholarship George Paul Harris.
