Phillip Lloyd Short, son of the late Odes Short and Mildred Luermann Short, was born on April 23, 1932, in Success, Arkansas, and departed this life on February 11, 2022, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Arkansas, at the age of 89 years.
Mr. Short was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a former teacher and retired from Neelyville Schools where he taught Geography and Social Studies and he was a former farmer. He was an active member of the First General Baptist Church in Corning, Arkansas, and a resident of Neelyville, Missouri.
On October 19, 1958, in Essex, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Opal Coffey. Mrs. Short survives of their home in Neelyville.
In addition to his wife Opal, he is survived by his daughter, Renee Ritter and husband Steve of Williford, Arkansas; by his brother, Kenneth Short and wife Dottie of Houston, Texas; by two sisters, Shirley Schif of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Wanda Wyatt and husband Wendell of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by his sister-in-law, Jean Isbell and husband Bob of Dexter, Missouri; by his brother-in-law, Lewis “Bud” Coffey of Dexter, Missouri; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brad Short; by his brother, Wayne Short, and by his brother-in-law, Charles Schif.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Robinson (Phillip’s cousin) officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
