In Memory of Michael “Mike” Wayne Cox
Michael “Mike” Wayne Cox of Middlebrook, Missouri passed away July 22, 2024 at his residence at the age of 74 years. He was born July 3, 1950 in Parma, Missouri the son of the late Willard Wilson and Opal Irene (Richards) Cox. 

Michael is survived by his three children: Sandra Watz (Patrick) of Festus, Missouri, Melanie Keena (Paul) of Dexter, Missouri, and Amy Jones (Terry) of Fulton, Missouri, his brother; Roger Cox (the late Jan) of Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, two sisters; Barbara White (Printes) of Pierceville, Kansas, Sharon Greemore (Robert) of Portageville, Missouri and seven grandsons: Mason, Myles, Parker, Michael, Tucker, Hudson, and Oliver as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by three brothers: Luther “Junior” Cox, Johnny Cox, and Robert Cox, and four sisters: Alice Wheeler, Cathy Taylor, Freda Long and Ruth Karnes. 

Mike was a member of Carpenter Local #5. He worked in both residential and commercial construction until he retired. He was a member of American Legion 283. He loved to fish and hunt and be outdoors watching the wildlife near his home. He also enjoyed working on old cars and restoring them.  

It was Mike’s request to be cremated and be interred at the Veteran’s National Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri. There will be a private gathering for family and friends at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brysonfuneralhome.com.

In Memory of  Vivian Freeda Moore

On July 18, 2024, the world has lost a beloved soul, Vivian Freeda Moore, who passed away in Bloomfield, Missouri. Vivian was born on February 21, 1936, in Swinton, Missouri, to Carl Alfred and Frona Geneva (Tolbert) Pruitt. Vivian was a cherished member of her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Her life was marked by her unwavering faith, and she found great joy in actively serving at Cornerstone Tabernacle Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Known for her warm smile and kind heart, Vivian touched the lives of many with her generosity and compassion.

Beyond her commitment to her church family, Vivian had a passion for gardening, shopping, and most of all spending quality time with her loved ones. 

On May 16, 1953, Vivian married the love of her life, Hershel L. Moore, in Aquilla, Missouri and they remained married until the time of his passing on July 30, 1996.

In mourning Vivian's departure are her surviving family members: two sons, Michael Moore and Brit and wife Marsha Moore of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Sonja Moore of Poplar Bluff; thirteen grandchildren, and fifty-two great-grandchildren, and a large circle of extended church family and friends, as well as many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured by those whose lives she touched.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers Dwain and Carson Pruitt. Though she may have left this world behind, the legacy of love and kindness that she leaves behind will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Visitation for Vivian Freeda Moore will take place on July 25, 2024 at Cornerstone Tabernacle Church in Poplar Bluff from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM at the same location with Brother Victor O'Sorio of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Pastor Jared Davis of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating. The Interment will be held at Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield to follow service. Let us gather together to remember Vivian's life and honor the impact she made during her time with us.

May Vivian's memory be a blessing to those who mourn her loss. Her spirit will live on through the love she shared so generously with others during her lifetime.

In Memory of Jeanette Clarice Smith

Jeanette Clarice Smith, daughter of the late Troy Teeter and Carrie Waldrop Teeter, was born on April 17, 1933, and departed this life on July 22, 2024, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 91 years.


Mrs. Smith was a former secretary for Griffin Contracting and Brown Shoe Factory. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She enjoyed going on trips, and spending time with her family around the holidays. She would purchase gifts for less fortunate children around Christmas, so they would have something to open. She loved animals.


On May 22, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Willie Lee Smith. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on September 17, 2009.


She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Corlew of Dexter, Missouri, and Angie Smith of Dexter, Missouri; by two grandsons, Zach Roach and Jacob Roach; and by five great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Brayden, Addison, Jaxon, and Bentley.


Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Charles Ray Corlew, and by her brother, James Teeter.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with JT Thomason officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.


Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Neda Charlene (Lewis) Bowman

Neda Charlene (Lewis) Bowman, 74, of Campbell, was born to the late Charlie and Ruth Fowler Lewis in Poplar Bluff, Missouri Saturday, Oct. 8, 1949. She departed this life Sunday, July 7, 2024 at her residence in Campbell, Missouri.

Charlene was a surgical tech at Dexter Hospital working under Dr. Hill.

On Friday, Feb. 13, 1998 in Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Terry Bowman. He survives.

Other survivors include, son, Aaron Woolard and wife, Dianne, of Dexter; three grandchildren, Cyrus Woolard and wife, Madison, of Shelbyville, Illinois, Olivia Woolard of Savannah, Georgia and Lana Woolard of Dexter; three great-grandchildren, Gwen, Tess and Blair Woolard; sister, Ruth Ann Hoggard and husband, Dennis, of Clearwater; nephew, Doug Barnfield of Red Bud, Illinois and niece, Susan Barnfield Cells of Piedmont.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.

A luncheon was to follow at the Meadows in Dexter, Missouri. 

Landess Funeral Home and Crematory of Malden are in charge of the arrangements.

In Memory of William Charles “Bill” Davis

William Charles “Bill” Davis, son of the late William Paul Davis and Mary Howell Davis, was born September 9, 1935, in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life July 18, 2024, in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 88 years.


Mr. Davis was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a former farmer, supervisor for Issaquena County, Mississippi and truck driver. He enjoyed camping, boating, mechanics and dancing.


On October 9, 2004, he was united in marriage to Rubalee Myers, in Dexter, Missouri. Mrs. Davis survives of their home in Olathe, Kansas.


Other than his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Tina Pugh (Tim), Shera Henderson (Greg), and Stephanie Gill all of Searcy, Arkansas; by two stepdaughters, Christi Lewis (Eldon) of Kansas City, Kansas and Burnetta Crew of Chattanooga, Tennessee; by three sisters, Elizabeth Combs of Urbana, Illinois, Peggy Stott of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Rita McKain of Dexter, Missouri; by twelve grandchildren, Preston Pugh (Michelle), Peyton Pugh, Braden Henderson ( Christyn), Barrett Henderson ( Rachael), Brock Henderson (Makayla), Eryka Berryhill, Easton Gill, Elly Gill, Jeff Lewis (Jessica), Mackenzie Markley (Joe), Regan Greenfield (Gabe), and Jaclyn Crew (Don); by seven great-grandchildren, Landon Pugh, Theo Henderson, Davis Henderson, Lucy Henderson, Jayden Lewis, Caden Lewis and Adalyn Lewis.


A graveside service will be held at Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
