Dexter, Missouri - Park Hills Central Lady Rebels continued their 43 game winning streak at the Bearcat Event Center on Monday evening defeating the Lady Cats 55 - 42.
The Lady Rebels had a 9-0 run in the first period putting them up with a lead of 14-5. Though the Lady Cats seemed to play within single digits throughout the game they never could catch the Rebels of Park Hills and take the lead.
“We have played from behind some already this year and we have done a good job of getting back in the game and even win some of those games,” commented Lady Cats head basketball coach Chad Allen. “With a tough opponent like this it is hard to come from behind. They are very skilled offensively. They guard you really well so when we get behind a team like this, it’s hard to come back.”
The Lady Rebels led 17 - 12 lead at the end of the first period. The Bearcats were able to get within three by the end of the first half with Park Hills leading 26 - 23 before coming out in the third period.
Megan Skaggs had a game-high 25 points for Park Hills Central. Olivia Casey tallied two 3-pointers in the first period finished in double digits with 15 points.
“For the most part Megan Skaggs really tore us up tonight,” Allen stated. “She was really active with the ball inside and they concentrated on getting her the ball. We just had a tough time guarding her all night.”
Offensively, two Lady Cats finished in double digits. Krysten Garrison recorded a team-high 16 points and Dakota Reynolds tallied 10 points on two buckets and two treys.
Melanie McKuin and Chaylea Mosby each added 7 points.
“We are still struggling a little with our offense,” Allen said. “We are not shooting the ball with confidence and that’s one thing that with this break hopefully we will get a little more confidence shooting the ball and get ready for the second part of the season.”
The Dexter Lady Bearcats will have lots of time to practice their shots with a 12-day break in the forecast. They will travel to Charleston on Saturday, January 30th to play Carbondale in the annual Coaches vs Cancer one-day shootout fundraiser. They will be back at home on Tuesday, February 2nd when Saxony Lutheran comes to Dexter.
“We have a tough second half of the season,” continued Allen. “We still have tough opponents and even Carbondale is maybe 13-2, another potential tough opponent. Every game here on out we are going to have to get prepared for each team and like I said come out and click offensively.”
