Dexter Baseball Team Wins Home Opener Over Cooter

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Bearcats high school baseball team broke in the upgraded ball field with a win over Cooter 4 - 3 on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Dexter scored first, but Cooter was ahead until the fifth inning when the varsity Cats' Riley Mason singled off of Crowder driving in the game winning run.

"We obviously didn't swing the bats very well, but Riley Mason stepped up both on the mound and at the plate," commented Dexter head baseball coach Brian Becker.

Cooter scored three runs in the second inning.

Mason earned a win for Dexter.  He tossed four innings, gave up zero run, zero hits, and struck out four.

Crowder took the loss for Cooter.  He pitched six innings, surrendered one run, three hits, and struck out six.

Spencer Owens started the game for the Bearcats. He tossed three innings, gave up three runs, five hits, and struck out five.

Smelley started the game for Cooter.  He gave up three runs, zero hits, and walked one.

Clay Mullins, Kris Rinehart, and Mason each managed one hit.

"The play of the game was in the 3rd inning when a perfect relay cut down a runner at the plate that would have given Cooter the lead," stated Becker.  "Landon Henson threw a bullet to Spencer Owens who then threw a strike to Jason Jarrell who laid down the tag.  It was a huge play in the game and a big swing in momentum.
