Annual PTO Valentine’s Day Coronation

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - Eugene Field’s seventh annual Valentine King and Queen Coronation was celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 14, generating $850 for the elementary school’s activity fund.
Students of each class selected a king and a queen based on the characteristic of kindness, then a grade level winner was named for raising the most money for the Parent Teacher Organization.
Classroom royalty from the first, second and third grades were honored during a ceremony held in the gymnasium, with parents invited as special guests. Students from the Media Communications Team emceed the event, profiling the winners, listing the families, hobbies, career goals and favorite Leader In Me habits of the students.
Top fundraising students included Malori Morandi and Chadrick Joehrs of the first grade, Miley Baker and Aiden Field of second, and Abby Kearbey and Bryden McElhaney of grade three. Reigning queen and king Aliya Tafoya and D’Quaylin McCoy presented the crowns to the 2019 court.
The popular fundraiser began on Valentine’s Day in 2013 under the direction of counselor Esther Luna.

Three Rivers College Music Department Faculty Attends MMEA Conference

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - Three Rivers College Music Department faculty recently attended the 81st Annual Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) Workshop and Conference, "Appear and Inspire" for professional development, musical enrichment, and time to learn from the collective wisdom of the musical community.

Bernie Positive Office Referrals for Week March 4, 2019

Bernie, Missouri - Bernie Elementary Positive Office Referrals were awarded this week. These students were rewarded for their good behavior!
Students who earn such an honor also received a Subway Sandwich Gift Card and a POR Certificate.

Mules Café Takes Reservations for First Time

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - A total of 50 reservations were booked at the Mules Café on Wednesday, Feb. 20, for culinary arts students of the Technical Career Center to prepare their first full-service meal.
As opposed to serving walk-in customers in a buffet line, orders were selected from a menu and entrees were cooked to order.
“Ninety-five percent of jobs [students] will be looking to get into are going to involve cooking to order, serving the public and communication skills,” instructor Brandon Moon explained. “We can’t learn unless we do.”
Throughout the lunch shift, 12 students were divided in the kitchen and the front of the house, where they waited tables, grilled and plated meals, plus washed dishes. Moon oversaw the tickets coming in, while his assistant Monica Lewis served as hostess.
“We’re blessed that we have customers who know the kids are students, and are patient and giving,” Lewis commented. Tips for the day totaled $90, which will be reinvested into the program.
While time management remains a key area of improvement, noted Moon, the chef indicated that he was generally pleased with the service, knowing students obtained real-world experience necessary in the restaurant business. Moon said he looks forward to the next full-service meal, slated to take place on Wednesday, April 24.

Dexter School Board Meeting Minutes Released for February 2019

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter School Board met for a regular monthly meeting on February 19, 2019. Resignations for boys basketball coach, asst. football coach and one teacher were accepted along with some new hires for the District.

Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members with Mr. Rick Williams, Mr. Herman Morse being absent. He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance.
