Dexter High School 2025 Awards Ceremony and Local Scholarship Announcements

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025 the Dexter High School held their annual awards assembly and scholarship announcements in the Bearcat Event Center.

Local scholarship donors who were there were able to walk across the stage and hand deliver a certificate of their chosen student's annual scholarship.  A photo was taken of each individual with their organization.

"Our students are so fortunate to grow up in this community.  This year alone $41,150 will be awarded to the DHS graduates from these local scholarship."

EACH STUDENT WILL HAVE A SEPARATE PHOTO AND THE INFORMATION UNDER THAT PHOTO.  THIS WILL TAKE SOME TIME OVER THE NEXT WEEK.  IT WILL NOT BE A SIMPLE FACEBOOK POST, BUT AN ACTUAL WEBSITE POST.  THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING!

Regular Dexter School Board Meeting Notes
April 25, 2025

7:00 AM-Regular Board Meeting


1,2,3. Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge:  

The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members, with all members being present.  The Board President leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. 


4.  Old Business:

A.     The board approved the intent resolution authorizing reimbursement from bond proceeds.  


B. The board approved the certified election results from April 2, 2025.  

5.  New Business: 

A.  The board approved the use of MOCAAT as an investment option by approving a 

resolution and instrument of adoption.  

B.  The board approved placing the bond proceeds at MOCAAT.  


6.  Discussion Items: There were no discussion items.  

In Closed Session:  

1. The board approved the following resignations, retirements, or recensions:

Cody Boyer-HS Assistant Baseball Coach-effective at the conclusion of 

the 24-25 school year.  

Avery Schone-HS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach-effective at the 

conclusion of the 24-25 school year.


2.  The board approved the hiring of the following individuals for the 2025-2026 school year, 

pending a favorable background check and appropriate certification:

Hollie Pippins-Co-Sponsor for MS Cheer.   

Alex Brotz-Co-Sponsor for MS Cheer.  

Nick Noble-MS Head Girls BB.  

Natalie Gargas-MS Girls Asst. BB.  


3. The board approved the summer school staff for the 2025 summer session.


4.  The board approved Schroepfer Insurance for the districts health insurance plan

for the 25-26 school year. 


5. The board approved the 2025-2026 salary/benefit recommendations for certified staff.  

The recommendation was as follows:

Adding 1.5% to the salary schedule, increasing the base to $37,479 and honoring a step

for all certified staff members.  The board also approved increasing the contribution to 

$555 toward medical insurance.  


6. The board approved the 2025-2026 salary/benefit recommendations for classified staff.  

The recommendation was as follows:

Level 1, 60+ hour aide, and bldg. sec/BS aide-9% increase.  Head cook-4% increase, and all other positions will receive a 3% increase. These increases will help the district meet the minimum wage requirement which is set to increase on January 1, 2026 to $15/hour.  A step for a year of service was also approved.  The board also approved increasing the contribution to $555 toward medical insurance.


7. The board approved transitioning counselor positions to an index of 1.05.  


8.  The following items were discussed with the board:

Waiver request to DESE

Items at the Conclusion of Executive Session

CTA Retirement Tea Honors Angie Duncan for Her 31 Years of Experience

The Dexter CTA honored two retirees at their annual CTA Retirement Tea on Tuesday, April 24, 2025.

Saren Demaree, Dexter Board of Education President honored each retiree.

"We are so glad you have joined us today as we recognize and celebrate the careers of two outstanding educators - Kristi Whitehead and Angie Duncan," commented Demaree.

"It is with the utmost respect that we thank you for your years of dedication and leadership," continued Demaree. "These two have poured their hearts into their students and our community."

"While you will be missed, today we joyfully celebrate with you," stated Demaree.  "Congratulations to each of you on a well-deserved retirement!"

Angie Duncan graduated with her Bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University- Cape Girardeau in 1994.

In 2004 she completed her Master's degree also at SEMO and then obtained her specialist degree from William Woods University in 2013.

in 1994 she began her educational career at T. S. Hill Middle School, teaching all four core subjects for two years.  She likes to say that she was the "Teacher on a Cart" during that time - due to space limitations, she moved from classroom to classroom to teach.

In 1996, she became a full-time math teacher, teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth grade math for 14 years.  Mrs. Duncan was then hired as assistant principal and athletic director at the. middle school.

In 2015, Mrs. Duncan joined Central Elementary as the principal, where she has saved for the last 10 years.

Mrs. Duncan retires with 31 years of teaching and administrative experience, all of it spent here serving the children and families of th Dexter School District.

CTA Retirement Tea Honors Kristi Whitehead of 28 Years of Service

The Dexter CTA honored two retirees at their annual CTA Retirement Tea on Tuesday, April 24, 2025.

Kristi Whitehead graduation from the University of Missouri- Columbia with her Bachelor's degree in Human development, Family Studies, and Child Life Specialist in 1994.

In 1997, she completed her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Freed-Hardeman University.

In 1997, Mrs. Whitehead began her educational career in TN, teaching fifth grade at Sunnyhill Elementary, then third grade at Nova Elementary for five years.

in 2003, Mrs. Whitehead joined the faculty at Southwest Elementary where she spent two years teaching kindergarten, then over to first grade in 2005, where she taught for three years.

In 2008, she joined the third grade team at Central Elementary, where she has taught for the last 17 years.

Mrs. Whitehead retired with 28 years of teaching experience, 22 of those years spent serving the children and families of the Dexter School District.

Regional Healthcare Foundation Awards Scholarship
Congratulations to Isabella Pittman, DHS Class of 2025. Regional Healthcare Foundation is delighted to announce that Isabella Pittman is the recipient of this year's RHF Scholarship.

She is the daughter of Gary and Jennifer Pittman.

She has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and is ranked first in her class.
This Fall, she will be attending Southeast Missouri State University to pursue a degree in nursing. We are incredibly proud to support her educational journey and look forward to seeing her future accomplishments.
